Some day readers of this website will not completely understand the impact of Covid on the art world. Although it was a tragic period, for me it opened opportunities for my writing. During the Covid Period many theatre companies chose to open their productions to virtual performance rather than shut down completely. This allow writers and performers to share their art from any place in the world. It also allowed theatre companies to produce performances for little or no cost. I leaped at any opportunity to show my work. Below are some examples of those virtual performances. Most were produced using Zoom.
What Could Have Been started as a reading from the LA Play Reading group when it was presented as a live reading. After the performance, several of the members suggested it should be made into a film project. With the support of the grooup I decided to take the leap and produce my first video.
What Could Have Been tells the story of how prejudice and abuse of power can destroy the opportunity for love.
Fantastic… with a powerful message.
I remember.
The Booth was inspired by a story out of Japan when a city was destroyed by a Tsunami. After the Tsunami a gardener placed a telephone booth in his garden to communicate with his wife, who was lost in the flood.
The garden in The Booth takes place in America and rather the gardener can actually communicate with his dead wife is the question only the audience can answer.
Please Call was created by giving the three actors their piece of the script. Each actor recorded their lines and recorded their performances on a phone or computer. I took what they recorded and edited the three dialogues into one performance. This was another story inspired by a segment from This American LIfe.
